Battle of the Books

Roosevelt participated in the statewide Battle of the Books program. This program, for fourth grade and older, is designed to promote a love of reading among our students. It encourages students to read a variety of books and remember information about the plots, characters, and settings of the books. It is a fun, academic-based competition that has been very successful in school districts throughout the state in encouraging students to read.

Four students from Roosevelt went on to the state competition that took place during the week of February 20th. They competed online with other teams across the state. Congratulations to all the students who participated for making this program a success at Roosevelt! Your love of reading really shows!

Author of the Month

Fourth and fifth grade students are creating author of the month displays. Students in Mrs. Roehrig's fourth and fifth grade class created the February display. They chose Dr. Seuss and found information and pictures so other students can learn about this author. They also used the library catalog to find all the books the media center has by Dr. Seuss. They did a great job making the display!

Students in Ms. Ellingson's fifth grade class made the January display about Gary Paulsen.

Lucky Readers

The media center has started a new reading promotion called Lucky Readers. Students who check out one of the lucky books will recieve a free book. Brandi Lueck, Drew Aron, TJ Hudson, and Dominic Cook are pictured here with their free books.

Read on Wisconsin

Student Photos 034

Barbara Joose

Third graders from Roosevelt Elementary had the opportunity to visit the Executive Residence of Governor and First Lady Doyle on March 16th. The students have been participating in the Read on Wisconsin Program that First Lady Doyle started. They review books with the media specialist in the computer lab. Students are encouraged to make connections when they review the books. During the visit, students had a mini tour of the mansion, met Barbara Joosse, author of Snow Day, and had the opportunity to share parts of their favorite books.

For more information, visit the Read on Wisconsin website:
http://readon.wisconsin.gov.
